Adding an Additional Socket - Tyne Electrical Services, Seaton

There are many electricians that will not entertain small electrical jobs and you may discover some difficulty when requesting small jobs be carried out. We regularly carry out small electrical jobs in Axminster and surrounding areas and are always happy to give you a quote for whatever you may need.

What are some small electrical jobs examples?

There are many electrical jobs that could be considered small electrical jobs such as:

  • Replacing a light fitting
  • Installing a replacement light switch
  • Installing a replacement plug socket
  • Installing additional plug sockets in your home
  • Fitting an outdoor light
  • Installing a cooker
  • Swapping a porch light or installing a new one

There are many more small electrical jobs that we carry out regularly for our customers as we understand that not every one needs a rewire each year. 😊

Can you add plug sockets into my home?

Yes, always. There is always a safe way to install additional plug sockets in every home. With older wiring systems and fuse box equipment, there may be additional upgrades that are required for safety reasons before plug sockets can be installed. In modern homes built in the last few years, it is highly likely that all wiring and consumer unit equipment will be up to date and compliant with the latest safety standards thereby requiring minimal or no additional costs to update.

Can modern light fittings be installed in older homes?

In many older electrical systems, there are often a multitude of cables at the ceiling position that feed the light fitting. With many modern light fittings requiring only 2 or 3 cables and only having room inside for this, older wiring systems can be a real problem for installing modern light fittings.

As your local small electrical job’s electrician in Axminster, we are more than familiar with solving these types of problem in older homes. We can create a safe electrical junction above the light fitting in many cases in order to safely install your new light.

Can you swap a single oven for a double oven?

In many cases, this could be a problem and require the installation of a dedicated electrical cooker circuit. Single ovens do not require a great deal of power and as such, can often be installed with a plug top or fused connection unit (FCU).

A double oven often requires a much larger supply to work correctly and if a single oven has been used previously there may be additional electrical requirements that are needed  before installation can take place.

Don’t worry though, we always have a solution for our customers and can check what type of power supply you currently have available for your oven to ensure that installation goes smoothly.

Can I have metal light switches instead of plastic?

In most newer homes, it is entirely possible to install metal light switches in place of plastic as there will nearly always be an earth wire (Circuit Protective Conductor) installed to each switch. We carry out a few tests to make sure the earthing is safe and can then install the metal light switches in place of the plastic ones.

In older homes particularly those that have not been rewired for a long time, it was common not to have an earth wire to each switch and in these cases, installing metal light switches could be potentially dangerous.

As the local small job’s expert in Axminster, we regularly carry out light switch and plug socket replacements so are well placed to advise on what is possible for your home.
